TECHNOLOGY PERSPECTIVES:
MEMORY TUNING FOR ECLIPSE 3.1 AND EXADEL STUDIO PRO
by Igor Shabalov, Exadel's Vice President of Product Development
It's not news anymore that the Eclipse Foundation has announced the general availability of Eclipse 3.1. Good things come into the world with a price. As an example of this, Exadel's Vice President Igor Shabalov sketched out his ideas about memory management for Eclipse and it's plug-ins.
"Eclipse became better and - surprise! - bigger. In addition to Eclipse, we see now the so called "Eclipse top level projects", - one of the most important ones is the Web Tools Project (WTP). On top of all this, some vendors put together some good tools for developers... But I'm not going to talk about specific features of Eclipse and all it's siblings - I’m just going to talk about the OutOfMemory error and the implication of Java 5, that came to my attention, when I tried all these exciting new features." - Feasibility Assessments, return on investment and total cost of ownership analysis help organizations understand the financial, strategic, and technical advantages of open source;
- Technology and Migration Roadmap development and planning help organizations move from proprietary solutions to open source;
- Community Engagement Plans that implement formal models designed to assist clients in leveraging the open source community for education and support;
- Open Source Development Modeling that helps organizations integrate and deploy the most effective parts of the open source distributed development model;
- Software Frameworks Review of Struts, Hibernate, JSF, Spring and other common open source frameworks and their applicability to the project;

JAVAONE UNVEILS GOOD DEVELOPMENTS
eWeek June 27, 2005
In his article dedicated to the latest JavaOne show at San Francisco Moscone Center, Peter Coffe shares his impression on tools for Java Developers.
"With new visual tools for using JavaServer Pages to create dynamic content, and JavaServer Faces for component-based user interface construction, the 3.0 release of Exadel Studio Pro looks as if it will offer remarkable value at its planned price of $99 upon general availability in August. I received last week a remote demo of the current build of the 3.0 update: It had the kind of completeness of function, intelligence of design and responsiveness of action that I expect of tools costing 10 times as much." MAKING OPEN-SOURCE APPS MORE APPEALING TO BUSINESS
By Larry Greenemeier InformationWeek June 27, 2005
"Companies know that putting open-source software into their application stacks can cut costs, but their need for support and accountability from vendors has limited its use in mission-critical environments. Exadel Inc. is trying to remove such barriers to adoption with new planning and support services, and an integrated development environment, for the open-source application development process."
