TV SHOPPING NETWORK HSN SHOPS EXADEL FOR OPEN SOURCE SERVICES, TOOLS AND TRAINING
Exadel Services Enable Multi-Channel Retailer to Extend Enterprise Application Framework While Decreasing Development Time and Reducing Costs
Concord, Calif., September 26, 2005 - Exadel, Inc., a leading provider of software, services, and support that enable companies to create mission-critical business applications based on open source and Java(TM) technologies, today announced that the TV shopping network HSN, a global multi-channel retailer and subsidiary of IAC/InterActiveCorp (NASDAQ: IACI), has chosen Exadel's Open Source Tools, Development Boost Services and customized training to extend its application infrastructure capabilities and to augment its in-house open source and Java expertise.
Tasked with creating an application platform that could effectively scale to support future application development efforts, HSN evaluated dozens of commercial and open source solution providers before deciding to build the framework in-house with open source and Java-based technologies. The primary challenge of this visionary IT initiative was determining how HSN could design and deploy a reliable, high-performance software infrastructure with a team of in-house programmers, developers and architects who were unfamiliar with the complex landscape of open source tools and technologies.
Exadel's experience with helping Fortune 1000 companies integrate legacy and open source systems was a naturally attractive option for HSN. The company took advantage of Exadel's onsite training, consulting and project guidance services to successfully overcome its internal knowledge gaps, deploying a new, more flexible application framework ahead of the planned development timeline.
"By leveraging Exadel's expertise, we were able to achieve both business and technical value," said John Thompson, project manager at HSN. "After completing the first phase of our project, we have seen a significant decrease in the learning curve for our developers which has resulted in putting our team several weeks ahead of our development cycle. In addition, we were able to realize a significant cost savings that we would have needed to invest in commercial software and support."
"Organizations have realized the business case for open source software and are increasingly willing to deploy it throughout their application frameworks," said Fima Katz, founder and CEO of Exadel, Inc. "As was the case with HSN, Exadel Development Boost can provide the tools and guidance necessary to integrate and support both open source and proprietary technologies with which IT personnel may not be entirely familiar. We look forward to helping HSN meet their evolving business and IT requirements."
