EXADEL A NATURAL CHOICE FOR SIERRA CLUB
Sierra Club Launches Advanced Web Applications, Tapping Exadel Open Source Expertise and Tools
Concord, Calif., October 11, 2005 - Exadel, Inc., a leading provider of software, services and support that enable companies to create mission-critical business applications based on open source and Java™ technologies, today announced that Sierra Club, the nation's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, has selected Exadel's Web development toolset and Development Boost services. Tapping Exadel's expertise in Java and open source development and planning, Sierra Club has already deployed a Web-based external-facing custom application and plans to deploy a separate Web application internally.
Sierra Club recently tasked its IT department with overhauling the web-based reservation system for "Sierra Club Outings," a 100-year-old program. Tied to its membership database of over 3 million members, the online reservation system had grown increasingly complex, as additional business processes and requirements, from pricing to membership data, were added to the application. Enhancing the system required that the team evaluate the most robust and flexible tools on the market.
The development team, including lead programmer analyst Mark Maslow, sought a Java-based Web development toolset that could offer a component-based architecture and strong data conversion capabilities. The team also determined that it needed the support and services of a commercially-backed product to ensure the project finished on time and with minimal headaches. Maslow and his team ultimately selected Exadel Studio Pro 3.0 and Exadel Professional Services to roll-out the new and improved application, taking the project from start to finish in less than three months.
"Exadel played a critical role in helping us navigate through the open source market," said Mark Maslow, lead programmer analyst, Sierra Club. "Their expertise and deep technology knowledge, in addition to their feature-rich development tools, helped us meet our business goals of simplifying our complex processes and creating more flexibility with our systems."
Exadel's Development Boost and professional services offerings help companies identify, analyze, and evaluate a myriad of development options for critical open source and Java development projects. By designing, building, and supporting mission-critical enterprise-wide applications, Exadel enables companies to improve their efficiencies while leveraging the most appropriate open source technologies.
Exadel Studio Pro offers a Web application development environment that is designed to enable rapid application development via advanced utilization of the Eclipse platform. Packing a huge collection of features in to a comprehensive environment that supports JSF, Struts, Hibernate, and Spring technologies, Exadel Studio Pro allows developers to use Eclipse for efficient industrial-strength Web application development.
"Sierra Club is the latest in a growing number of organizations that view open source tools and infrastructure technologies as critical components of their application platform," said Fima Katz, founder and CEO, Exadel. "From planning application infrastructure to building mission-critical business applications, Exadel has helped hundreds of companies like the Sierra Club embrace open source without sacrificing world-class service and support."
